One person has died and two other have been seriously injured in a crash on Crown Range Road near Queenstown this afternoon.

Emergency services were alerted to the crash involving two vehicles at 3.55pm.

Crown Range Road has been closed at the intersection with Gibbston Highway / State Highway 6.

The road is expected to remain closed for some time as the Serious Crash Unit examines the crash scene.

Crown Range Road will open at 12.00pm. Please carry chains and take extreme care if using this route. Slow down.

**11.20am update**

Crown Range remains closed, but crews are working hard to clear snow from the road and will have another update on conditions up there around 12.00pm today.

**8.30am update**

The trees on Hunter Road and Lake-Hayes Arrowtown Road have been cleared.

SH6 Haast Pass is now closed from Makarora to Haast.

โ„๏ธ Extreme care required on the alternative route via Kawarau Gorge. Carry chains and fit them where required.

โ„๏ธ Snow is affecting roads around Queenstown. If you need to travel, please take extreme care. Carry chains and fit them where required.

โ„๏ธThere are fallen trees blocking lanes on Arrowtown-Lake Hayes Road and Hunter Road.

โ„๏ธThe Cardrona Valley and the Upper Clutha Basins roads have missed the snow and are only affected by surface water. Drive with care .

**9.25pm Crown Range Road Update**

Evening team - the Crown Range Road will remain open overnight but chains must be fitted to all vehicles. While heavily gritted, the road is affected by compacted snow and ice so please take it nice and slow.

In other wintry news - there are very cold temperatures forecast tomorrow which may cause ice on the roads, particularly around the Arrowtown, Malaghans Road, Lake Hayes area. Please take care if you're hitting the road early.
