Thanks Sarah and Nathan from NZTT for your review recently on out Nomad Safaris quad biking, it was lovely to host you.
This morning we got up bright and early to join Nomad Safaris on their quad bike tour. Those that know me, know I LOVE the quad biking in Franz Josef, so it was always going to be a big ask for this tour to impress us - but it really did!
We started with a flat training course, where we got confident turning the quads/ATVs, then we went up a hill to learn about active riding (where we shifted our body weight right over the quad), and got comfortable with the way the bikes responded when going down-hill.
Then we were off, up Queenstown Hill (for a ride that lasted about 2 hours, 15 mins).
What we loved:
• the way that divided us into two groups - one that was more confident and another that travelled a bit slower. This ensured everyone got a ride that they really enjoyed... we loved going quick, while nobody in the other group was pushed beyond what they were comfortable with.
• That all the gear was provided... boots, a padded jacket, waterproof pants, goggles (though I preferred to use my sunnies) and gloves. It was a cold morning though, so merino and warm base layers were still important.
• The views - seriously incredible!! And we stopped at a number of spots to snap photos and soak everything in.
• The speeeeeed - I'm not sure what speed we got up to (as I was too busy looking at where I was going), but I noticed we got up to 40km/h when I was looking, so at a guess, perhaps 55km/h which was lots of fun.
• Friendly guides that did a great job of judging what each group wanted/was capable of.
• Sheep crossing the tracks - the classic Kiwi experience we all hope for 🐑
• A tasty little morning tea - coffee/tea/hot choccy, biscuits/cookies and fresh banana bread.
• Transport is also provided from the city centre, or from a meeting point near the course itself.
Pro tip: You're not allowed to hold any cameras while driving, so if you want footage on the go, ensure you have an action camera that you can use hand's free. We didn't bring our GoPro on this trip, and don't have the hand's free mount for our Insta 360, so that's on our wishlist now!
There are awesome photo op's when you stop, so you don't be short of images, it just means we don't have video footage to show you.
You'll just have to take our word for it, this is definitely a tour worth adding to your Queenstown itinerary!!
