🍷 Wine of the Week: Wild Irishman ‘Macushla’ Pinot Noir 2025 🍷

Some wines are good. Some wines are memorable. And then there are wines like this.

The 2025 Macushla Pinot Noir from Wild Irishman is a stunning expression of Gibbston and one of those wines that makes you stop, slow down, and appreciate just how special Central Otago can be.

Named Macushla — Gaelic for “my darling” — this limited release Pinot Noir is layered, elegant, and beautifully complex. Expect aromas of dark cherry, mocha, espresso, and subtle French oak, leading into a rich palate with silky tannins, vibrant acidity, and remarkable depth for such a young wine.

Aged for 10 months in French oak barrels and crafted from hand-harvested Gibbston fruit, it showcases the concentration, structure, and purity that this cool-climate sub-region is famous for.

✨ Why we love it:
🍒 Rich dark fruit and black cherry characters
☕ Hints of mocha, coffee and dark chocolate
🍷 Silky texture with beautifully integrated oak
⛰️ A true snapshot of Gibbston in the outstanding 2025 vintage
⏳ Drinking beautifully now, with cellaring potential through to 2035

🍇 One of the standout wines in the current Kinross tasting experience, the 2025 Macushla Pinot Noir is a beautiful reminder of why wine lovers travel from around the world to Central Otago.

Join us on a Queenstown Wine Tour and taste it for yourself.

🍷 New tasting lineup now pouring at Kinross 🍷

One of the things we love most about Kinross is that there’s always something new to discover.

Currently pouring:

🍇 Hawkshead Pinot Blanc 2025
Fresh, vibrant and beautifully aromatic.

🍇 Kinross Storm Cloud Pinot Noir 2025
A juicy, fruit-forward Pinot Noir from Gibbston.

🍇 Valli Bendigo Pinot Noir 2023
A stunning single-vineyard expression from one of Central Otago’s most celebrated producers.

🍇 Wild Irishman Doctors Flat Pinot Noir 2024
Elegant, complex and showcasing the distinctive character of Bannockburn.

🍇 Wild Irishman Macushla Pinot Noir 2025
Rich, expressive and a wonderful example of Gibbston Pinot Noir.

Five wines. Five unique stories. One unforgettable tasting experience.

✨ This is why Kinross remains one of our favourite stops on our Queenstown Wine Tour.

🥂 If you could only take one bottle home, which one would it be? 👇🍷

🍂 There's a moment every autumn in Gibbston Valley that makes us fall in love with this place all over again.

The summer crowds have eased. The air feels cooler and cleaner. And the vines — which spent months quietly producing some of the Southern Hemisphere’s most celebrated Pinot Noir — are beginning their slow transition into gold, amber, and deep copper red.

It’s genuinely one of the most beautiful places in New Zealand at this time of year.

Harvest has just wrapped up across Central Otago, the barrels are filling, and the cellar doors feel more intimate and unhurried than at any other point on the calendar.

When you visit in autumn, you’re not just tasting wine — you’re tasting the season that just was. The cool nights that concentrated the flavours. The warm days that gave the grapes their depth. It’s something you genuinely feel when a winemaker pours you a glass and shares the story behind the harvest.

That’s the kind of experience we love sharing with our guests.

Happy International Chardonnay Day from the best possible place to spend it.

Peregrine’s barrel hall, Central Otago sunshine through the window, and guests who came for a tour and stayed for the Chardonnay moment.

Can’t blame them. Cheers to the good stuff.🥂
