🍷 Wine of the Week: Wild Irishman ‘Macushla’ Pinot Noir 2025 🍷
Some wines are good. Some wines are memorable. And then there are wines like this.
The 2025 Macushla Pinot Noir from Wild Irishman is a stunning expression of Gibbston and one of those wines that makes you stop, slow down, and appreciate just how special Central Otago can be.
Named Macushla — Gaelic for “my darling” — this limited release Pinot Noir is layered, elegant, and beautifully complex. Expect aromas of dark cherry, mocha, espresso, and subtle French oak, leading into a rich palate with silky tannins, vibrant acidity, and remarkable depth for such a young wine.
Aged for 10 months in French oak barrels and crafted from hand-harvested Gibbston fruit, it showcases the concentration, structure, and purity that this cool-climate sub-region is famous for.
✨ Why we love it:
🍒 Rich dark fruit and black cherry characters
☕ Hints of mocha, coffee and dark chocolate
🍷 Silky texture with beautifully integrated oak
⛰️ A true snapshot of Gibbston in the outstanding 2025 vintage
⏳ Drinking beautifully now, with cellaring potential through to 2035
