Pipiriki, the southern gateway to the Whanganui National Park, it is from here we your operator welcome you aboard. All tours are small ensuring a memorable experience and can be tailor-made to suit your personal requirements. Ken (your local guide/driver, who first started driving Commercial Jetboats in 1985) and his wife - Josephine (whose family have been on the river for generations and still work and live here today) have extensive local knowledge and stories of their entire childhood of growing up and living alongside the mystical Whanganui River, Ken will share with you the history and stories of the river stops and of the early settlers in the Mangapurua Valley - the famous "Bridge To Nowhere". Ko au te awa Ko te awa ko au
I am the river and the river is me

Get off the beaten track and explore the untouched Whanganui River on one of our Jetboats (specially designed by us) or our Canoe Tours. Be immersed in our local indigenous Maori and Pre-European culture by local river people (tangata whenua o te awa) for a truly unique experience and lots of beautiful memories to cherish.

There’s more to the Whanganui River than what you can see from the boat. 🌿

Hidden amongst the cliffs upriver from Pipiriki are the Puraroto Caves, part of the historic area known as the “Drop Scene”.

These caves have fascinated visitors for generations. Puraroto was being sketched and documented as far back as the 1840s and 1850s, and more than a century later, cavers were still exploring and mapping the system hidden behind the riverbank.

Today, travelling upriver with Whanganui River Adventures gives you a glimpse into this incredible landscape — caves, waterfalls, steep gorges and places carrying generations of history.

Sometimes the best part of the river is knowing just how much lies beyond what you can see. 🌿

Taking the Whanganui River to Australia 🇳🇿🇦🇺
What a fantastic week for Ken and Josephine, representing Whanganui River Adventures and our beautiful corner of Aotearoa as part of Kiwi North across Australia.

It was a great opportunity to meet people from across the Australian travel industry, make new connections and share what makes the Whanganui River and our region such a special place to visit.

We’re incredibly proud to represent the place we call home and hopefully we’ll be seeing a few more Aussies on the river soon!

See you on the Whanganui.
