Just 40 minutes drive from Ohakune is the Taranaki Falls loop track, in the Tongariro National Park (access by Skotel in Whakapapa Villlage). The 20m waterfall is breathtaking but the track offers a variety of other scenery as well and is relatively easy - allow 2-3 hours for the walk.
