I know most times when we have impacted on paddlers who engage with AWE through their interactions, body language or their korero (voice). This feed back was heart warming and encouraging.
These tamariki put so much effort into their letters and even the envelope which I will treasure as a taonga that they are.
I've always said that we should look into the message within the message.
Yes the students wanted to acknowledge their thanks with a letter but the true message is how much they appreciated what AWE had done.
That's in the way of the "time and effort" of the letters and the content, and the time span after the event.
In a child's world most experiences are quickly forgotten or moved onto the next experience but for these two students, it meant more.
And that showed by that time and effort and even that lapse of time after the delivery.
They still made the effort to following through and ensured the teacher received it to pass onto us.
This is the acknowledgement that drives us to motivate, encourage, evoke and inspire in all that we do.

Mikaylah and Kahurangi you are our reason for being.
Nga mihi Kia korua from AWE team

An amazing day out on lake Rotoiti with the tamariki from Whangamarino kura, we had a great time with these very passionate tamariki. They even won the 50 meter race against the Kaiako and parent helpers. I hope the dishes were all completed by the losing team. Hehe but it was close.

Day 3 on lake Tarawera and had another beautiful day on the water. No wind and the water was flat, which would explain why the record for the time trial once again was beaten by a very talented roopu. 22 min 4 secs which shaved 11 seconds off yesterday's record. As I watched over their waka as they pulled away from us, it didn't look pretty but it was powerful and their technique was strong which made the difference. Thank you to all those students that gave their all to participate in this year's "Right of Passage" 2017.

Day two with students from JPC, participating in there "Right of Passage" Activity with AWE. Transitioning from Junior school to Senior school. The record from last year stood at 28 mins which was broken every day of the six day event. Yesterday saw that record broken with a time of 23 mins and 58 sec. But that was again broken by today's groups by 22 mins and 15 sec. The belief in these guys is astounding, team work, focus and endurance a plenty. So very proud of these guys and gals. Even if I was in the second waka. Well done Stacey on inspiring your waka to the finish line. Remember what I told you today, by always applying common sense to life. Much success to you all for your future. I will load up you salutes in the next video.
