Thousands of years in the making and nestled within a natural bush setting, walks through this unique geothermal area take between 30 and 75 minutes. The Lady Knox Geyser erupts to heights of up to 20 metres. Features include the world famous Champagne Pool and Sinter Terrace as well as hot springs, steaming ground, expansive vistas and huge geothermal craters. The constant bubbling and erupting of the Mud Pool add to your experience at New Zealand’s most colourful geothermal attraction. The Visitor Centre incorporates café and retail facilities. Only 20 minutes drive south of Rotorua on SH5.”

This geyser was discovered by people doing laundry 👀 in the early 1900s, inmates from a nearby prison used the hot springs here to wash their clothes, until one of them used soap and the whole thing erupted.

It still erupts to this day and you can expect to see it go off up to 20m high on your Wai-O-Tapu visit.
