Update 28/10 12:30pm: SH43 remains CLOSED while contractors work hard on clearing the road. For resident access between Stratford and Pohokura Saddle please talk to contractors on-site.

NZTA advises that State Highway 43 from Stratford to Taumaranui (the Forgotten World Highway) is now CLOSED until further notice due to heavy rain and strong winds.

Crews are onsite and working to clear fallen trees from the road as safely and efficiently as possible. Road users are advised to avoid the area and delay their journey accordingly.

More rain is forecast for tomorrow across parts of the region. Slips and other hazards can occur with no notice, so please drive to the conditions.

Metservice warnings remain in place for northern Taranaki and southern Waikato, in particular on SH3 around the Awakino area.

Torrential rain is hitting parts of the region – please adjust your speed accordingly and your following distances behind other vehicles.
