In effect: Reduced fees for Pacific visitors

Good news for nationals from Pacific Islands Forum country who will be visiting New Zealand!

* Reduction of visitor visa application fee to $161 from $216
effective 01 June 2026.
* This includes the standard immigration levy of $41. These
reduced fees are in effect for 12 months.
* This fee reduction is only for individuals applying outside New
Zealand

Immigration New Zealand latest update!

* English language requirements extended to AEWV skill level 3
roles

* From 1 June 2026 people applying for an AEWV at ANZSCO or
NOL skill skill 3 will also need to meet this requirement.

* Global Workforce Seasonal Visa and Peak Seasonal Visa AEWV
applications are not required to meet the minimum standard of
English, and the requirement does not apply to Job Change
applications.

* People already on an AEWV that expires on or before 1 December
2026 who want to apply for a new AEWV will not have to meet the
new requirements.

From 1 June 2026, Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) applicants in ANZSCO or National Occupation List (NOL) skill level 3 occupations must meet minimum English language requirements, with targeted transitional exemptions for current AEWV holders.

Migrants applying for citizenship in New Zealand will have to pass a new multi-choice test under a Government initiative to kick in late next year!

* Applicants will be quizzed in person on the “responsibilities and privileges” of citizenship, covering topics like the Bill of Rights Act, voting rights and the structure of the government.

* They will need to pass at least 75% of questions.

Applicants must score at least 75% in an in-person multi-choice quiz.

Reminder: Open work visa conditions have changed

On 20 April 2026, open work visa employment conditions were changed to either:

• allow visa holders to do any work, including self-employment,
sole trading or business ownership
• only allow visa holders to work for any employer under an
employment agreement or a contract for services.
