Waikato Cherry Tree Festival cancellation
We have been answering phone, email and social media for the last 24+ hours and it is heartbreaking because people were so looking forward to the festival, had saved up to come, had travelled from far and wide such as Auckland, Australia and Tahiti and stayed in accommodation, were going to celebrate a family event and so on. We are very sorry about the disappointment to all.
We put a huge amount of time and money into this multicultural community festival, which is loved by all, of great economic benefit to the area with most visitors coming from outside the Waikato, and of large potential to attract international visitors. We have been creating this beautiful place for 23 years and love sharing it with others.
As a result of failing to get a resource consent from the Waikato District Council for the Waikato Cherry Tree Festival and receiving an abatement notice when tried to then run the festival under the temporary event category, NZ PURE TOUR is in voluntary liquidation. A liquidator has been appointed and will be in contact with each ticket holder.
Anne and I have learnt much from this experience, and if we can rebuild from this and if we can get resource consent to run the festival again, we will honour all those who lost out this year with the same for free.
We are really committed to fixing the pain this cancellation has caused.
