April is a popular time of year to take on the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, with temperatures cooling and the weather still relatively stable, the journey is a little easier. You do need to be prepared for some chilly weather at the top.

We recommend starting early to make the most of the shorter daylight hours, packing warm layers, including gloves, just in case, and treating yourself to plenty of high-energy food to fuel all your hard work along the way
