From above, everything looks a little different. Rivers become ribbons winding through the landscape, while the hills shift between soft green and folds of light and shadow. The lake takes on colours you just don’t see from the shore, and the snow covering the mountains soften every ridge and rock line.

It’s one of our favourite parts of the job, not just getting people up in the air, but watching their reaction when they realise how much they’ve been missing from down below.

This is Taupō and the country that surrounds us, the way we get to see it most days of the week.

Flying is only part of the job at Chopper Worx. A lot of the work happens back in the hangar.

Our helicopters are regularly checked, serviced and maintained, from the rotor blades through to the engine and everything in between. It’s the less visible side of what we do, but it’s a pretty important part of every flight.

So when you’re up over Lake Taupō, there’s a whole lot of work behind the scenes helping keep things running smoothly.

Just 10 minutes, but so much to see.

Whether you're passing through Taupō, here for the weekend, or lucky enough to call it home, this is one experience that shouldn’t be missed.

Take off on our Taupō Treat scenic flight and see this incredible place from a different angle. You’ll lift out over the clear waters of Lake Taupō, track across town, then on to the power of Huka Falls and the geothermal landscape of Wairakei, including the borefields and Craters of the Moon. From there it’s Acacia Bay and a smooth run along the lakefront on the way back.

It's a bit of Taupō magic you won’t forget.
