Retrace your thoughts back a few days, weeks or months. How many of them are heavy, in that they weigh you down or hold you back from being your most vibrant self?
It’s hard not to be consumed by heavy thoughts when we are living a normal life. We don’t have the luxury of handing over the mundane tasks to a personal life secretary, a butler, cleaner or chef. Most of us have to juggle these things on our own (or if we’re sensible – delegate!).
This means our day-to-day lives are consumed with thoughts of “what do I need to do next”, “have we got enough snacks for school lunchboxes”, “when am I going to fit my spring clean in”, “how am I going to get dinner cooked when sports practice finishes at 6pm?” Not to mention dealing with life’s curveballs that come our way when we least expect them.
No wonder we end up burnt out! I work with women struggling with lethargy, apathy and straight-out exhaustion all the time.
Letting go of the heavy stuff involves a conscious choice, and usually we are only in a state to make that choice when we clear our mental and physical space and just ‘be’.
How often do you make that choice for yourself? Is your current state of health (or lack of) directly related to the fact that you never make the time to stop and unwind completely? (And let’s get real, who can actually do that when we have kids and jobs and responsibilities?)
This is why taking leave from your daily existence every once in a while is so important. In my view, it’s not a luxury, it’s an essential, because the consequences of not doing it are just too great.
Nobody is living their best life when they are trudging from one daily activity to another on auto-pilot.
We are currently putting our itinerary together for our luxurious long weekend of rest, relaxation, bonding and blossoming on the beautiful island of Waiheke.
