It has been a little over 365 days since our last group of students departed Tauranga back in March 2020. On reflection of a year of change those days seem so long ago now.
We have had the privilege of supporting a small bunch of long-term students who stayed in New Zealand over the lockdown and throughout 2020, a small number of them also stayed for the start of this year to continue with their studies. The lock down in 2020 for them was especially hard being away from the own country and families and took its toll on them in many ways.
We have been fortunate here in New Zealand, while our Government managed Covid outbreaks it has not been so fortunate for the rest of the world. Our international tourism is has all but disappeared and the tumbling blocks of businesses that have not been able to survive has been surreal to say the least.
Let’s Homestay has gone into hibernation mode with staff all doing other things now for the time being. Of course, we hope that in the future when borders reopen and the 2 week isolation restriction lifts, that students will again flock to our beautiful country, but it will not happen and should not happen until the world is secure and safe.
