Staying safe:
- Following heavy rainfall, visitors are asked to take extra care both on land and in the water. Debris may be submerged or washed downstream. If you’re heading out on the water, keep a careful lookout for hazards, and if swimming at the beach, please swim between the flags.
- A 30-metre exclusion zone remains in place around Mauao, as directed by the Harbourmaster. This applies to all people and vessels, including swimmers, paddleboarders, jet skis, and boats.
- If you are driving from outside the region, we recommend checking the NZTA Journey Planner to check road closure information: https://www.journeys.nzta.govt.nz/journey-planner
- Other walking tracks across the region, including parts of the Kaimai Ranges, may also be closed. We recommend checking the Department of Conservation website for the latest alerts before heading out: https://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/places-to-go/bay-of-plenty/alerts/
