September on the calendar: New Month. New Mission.

Our September calendar image features Fiordland's Marine Search and Rescue crew geared up. 🚁

Every successful rescue starts long before the emergency. Preparation does the heavy lifting: the training, the gear, and the drills, all taking place long before a callout ever comes in.

Southern Lakes Helicopters Air Rescue is Fiordland’s Search and Rescue and medivac operator, on call 24/7. This is what ready looks like.

⛰️ August Calendar Feature: Brass Peak

This month's calendar shot was captured by Henry, one of our Aoraki Mt Cook pilots - and it's a beauty.

Standing at 2,343m in the heart of the Southern Alps, Brass Peak is stunning. Experienced mountaineers can walk or climb in, but for most, the only way to reach this landscape is by helicopter - and it's one of our most popular landing spots for scenic flights (and yes, a fair few wedding ceremonies and proposals too).

We feel genuinely privileged to fly and work in this Aoraki/Mt Cook National Park every day. If you're chasing remote, untouched terrain most people never get close to - this is it.

Keen to see Brass Peak for yourself? Get in touch with the team to book your scenic flight. 📸 Photo: Henry, Aoraki Mt Cook Pilot

Ho**er Bridge Opens!

Incredible to see the heavy lifting captured on Seven Sharp last night! This highlights the epic teamwork between Southern Lakes Helicopters, Department of Conservation, Abseil Access Ltd. NZ, Speight Drilling and WestReef to deliver New Zealand's longest suspension bridge in extreme alpine conditions on time, and on budget!

The B3e Squirrel is the standard go-to in the Southern Lakes Helicopters fleet for technically demanding work in challenging environments.

The Ho**er Bridge, No2. is now open.

Our greatest feedback is always that our pilots know the New Zealand landscape like the back of their hand. They know what lies beyond each ridgeline and around every mountain corner, making every journey unique and shaped by expert local insight.

Ho**er Valley Bridge Update 🚁

Yes, the reconstructed Ho**er Valley Bridge is on-track to re-open this August!

Our team of pilots and ground crew based at Aoraki / Mount Cook have been heavily involved in reconstruction support, and are so pleased to see the progress.

Recent works have involved a lot of gravelling, with help from the team at Abseil Access. This involved gravelling the track approaches to the bridge on either side.

The old bridge has been removed already, and the final tasks were removing the cables that Southern Lakes Helicopters helped lift out last week.
