Our neighbours’ long row of non-native pine trees along our boundary fence had grown a little too tall, so we had them professionally ‘topped’ to keep things safe around our new Eco-Villa site.
That took care of the tricky bit. What it left us with was a lot of bushy timber and branches! And then the real work began…
Glen has spent hours upon hours trimming branches and cutting it all up with our electric battery-operated chainsaw (and plenty of good old-fashioned muscle!), while Susanna has been dragging the branches out and stacking them to dry. Even the kids have got involved, collecting pine cones to sell for pocket money.
Slowly but surely, that big tangle of branches and logs has turned into neat piles of firewood.
And the best part? We now have years’ worth of firewood ready for our on-site wood-fired sauna, opening this summer.
A safer boundary, a tidier site, a bit of exercise, some pocket money for the kids - and plenty of sauna fuel. A pretty good outcome all round!
