We're so stoked to announce our River Crossing Course — run in collaboration with the brilliant Bob McLachlan of Best Foot Forward NZ — happening Saturday 14th November.
Knowing how to read a river, cross it safely, and handle it if you lose your footing is a real confidence booster for exploring in the backcountry.
Here's what we'll cover:
📍 Is it safe to cross? Reading the signs before you step in
📍 How to read a river
📍 How to cross safely, solo or as a group
📍 What to do if you lose your footing
This is a practical, get your feet wet session!
And there's genuinely no one better to learn this from than Bob. Big Water Bob has spent 35+ years guiding rivers around the world — national and world titles in kayaking, decades as a raft guide, and last year he won the Yukon 1000, the world's longest paddle race. He reads a river the way most of us read a street sign.
This first session is women-only. If you’ve got family, friends, or a partner who'd be keen for this too — send them this post or get in touch. If there’s enough interest, we'll open a second session on the Sunday too.
