🏡 Kihikihi Police House & Temple Cottage Open Day – THIS SUNDAY! 🌿

Looking for something a little different to do with Dad this Father’s Day, Sunday 6th September? 👨‍👧‍👦💙

👀 It’s FREE to visit and open every month on:

- 1st Sunday 11am to 2pm
- 3rd Wednesday 1pm to 3pm

20 Lyon Street, Kihikihi
🚗 Free parking is available on the Turata reserve, by the cicada, down the Main Street or limited parking outside with access via Leslie Street

Come along and explore the fascinating Kihikihi Police House Museum open 11am to 2pm, step back in time, discover some local history and take plenty of photos along the way! 📸

And don’t forget to wander through the beautiful gardens at Temple Cottage 🌸🌿 — a lovely spot to explore and enjoy together.

But we also have a special call-out to our community… WE NEED VOLUNTEERS! ❤️

There are lots of fun and rewarding ways to get involved, including gardening, helping at Open Days and caring for the museum and its wonderful collection of historic treasures.

Our current Museum Antiquities Caretaker will be retiring in about six months, so we’re looking for someone who might like to learn the ropes from the best and eventually take on this part-time, hands-on and fascinating role.

You don’t need to be an expert! You’ll have plenty of support from the committee and the wonderful volunteers who help keep the Police House and Temple Cottage running. It’s a great opportunity to learn about our local history, meet people, spend time in beautiful surroundings and help preserve a special part of Kihikihi’s heritage. 🏡❤️

Plan ahead for your journey 🤗

🚧From 9am on Tuesday, 1 September 2026, Arapuni Road across Arapuni Dam will close for approximately 24–36 months while Mercury carries out major repair work on the dam.

We know this closure will have an impact on people travelling through the area, so please take a moment to familiarise yourself with the alternative routes and plan ahead where possible 🙌

A temporary detour via Powerhouse Road will be available for light vehicles, including cars, motorcycles, school buses, emergency services and rigid trucks up to 8 metres.

Please allow a little extra time for your journey and take care when travelling through the detour.

🌸THANK YOU, TE AWAMUTU! 🌸

We want to take a moment to say a huge thank you to our wonderful community for helping us keep the Te Awamutu Information & Visitor Centre open and continuing to serve our town, visitors and wider community. 🌿

Since losing our operational funding from Council, we have had to find new ways to keep our doors open. We simply couldn’t do it without the incredible support we receive from local businesses, community organisations, funders, visitors, volunteers and our wider community, from Te Awamutu, Kihikihi and Pirongia.

We are also incredibly grateful to the many organisations and businesses who continue to support us, and to the Te Awamutu Business Chamber, which stepped in to provide governance and operational support for the Information Centre.

The Business Chamber is a not-for-profit incorporated society, governed by a 100% volunteer Board, and operates very leanly. By bringing the Information Centre under the Chamber, it has helped us reduce costs and, most importantly, helped ensure this important community asset can remain open.

But the reality is that we are still operating at a loss and rely heavily on grants, donations, sponsorship, community funding and the support of our local people and businesses to keep going.

And that's why every bit of support matters. 🌸

🌿 purchased something from our retail space
🌿 volunteered your time
🌿 advertised with us
🌿 supported our fundraising
