For years New Zealand's legacy media painted the Māori members of this land occupation in the70s as radical or activists. Both descriptors I came, as a young child, to mistakenly view as a denigrating but fitting one. Little did I know the truth that sat behind the whenua (land). Little did I know those "radicals" began to pave the way to be the voice of many. Those of us either too meek, too colonised or too ignorant to question that we may have been wronged in matters pertaining to our land to which we possess an inherent and lasting connection.

Today we salute you. For your foresight. For your resilience. For your strength.

E ngā manu taikō, e rere kau ana te mihi maioha ki a koutou. Kua kaha ake te manawanui o te iwi Māori! Mauri ora.

The next I’m on a hīkoi around Te Papa with some cruise ship manuhiri from Arizona! I loved their curiosity about all things Māori especially when much of my tour gave us a whistful look back to times before permanent European settlement here in Aotearoa.

It really is a blessing to be able to do this.
To be able to speak to ngā tāngata o tāwāhi (our overseas folk) who are respectful enough to allow me to keep a firm cultural lens on the delivery of my kōrero. Thanks to Erana (pictured) from Travel Ed NZ for keeping me company!

Soo hōhā with dealings that lack transparency.

“…if the estimates are correct, then Mr Collett and Mr Stewart made approximately $1,600,000.00 profit in 18 months by selling the three properties to the TCC in June 2023 while Mr Collett was the Commercial Divestment Specialist for TCC.”

I’d like a please explain…..anō. All very well that we say things like WTF, that’s BS, and roll our eyes, but WHAT do we really do about it when greed and corruption that’s has been going on under our noses is actually uncovered?

And just like that we’re on holiday. What you say during the busiest time of the year?

Unapologetically yes.

Health is wealth and so is whānau who are an extension to my oranga tonu tanga (ongoing well-being).

2024 we hope to build on sharing more of our stories via this platform. Stay tuned!

Here’s to a happy, safe and prosperous one ☝️

Ngā mihi o te tau hou e te whānau ko te manako ia ka whai rawa, whai ora, whai whanaungatanga tātou i a tātou! 🙌🏽🎊

We all have our own unique stories, our own whakapapa and pathways that shape WHO we are now. Posting because first impressions and judging a person on their appearance alone can make for some awkward moments! Some indigenous young people here starting out on their journey of self discovery and cultural identity reclamation makes for endearing viewing.

Share those stories, embrace them, and ko te mea nui (the main thing) be proud of who you are and where you came from.

When one of our own gets a mention we know, as a collective, we’re moving in the right direction.

E poho kereru ana i a koe cuzzy Porina 👊🏽

Tau kē!

Go for a banana boat ride on Lake Taupō, skip through a sunflower meadow in Manawatū, and whizz through the treetops on the West Coast.

From a cultural perspective even though the Māori New Year occurs during Winter we still want to wish that 2023 brings you all the things you dream of and more.

Ngā mihi nui o te tau hou!

I had the pleasure of the company of Dirk and Ria from Brugge. You know the beauty of a small intimate group is the real exchange, the dialogue we can have in the space of time so much so the sociological differences that may exist between our cultures seem less so and you begin to find more and more common ground.

That’s what it’s all about though isn’t it?
