At the moment I'm winetouring myself in Mendoza Argentina, the most famous region in the world for Malbec, apart from Cahors Bordeaux of course, where the variety originated.
We've been taking clients to wineries and vineyards around Auckland and Waiheke Island for nearly 23 years and in that time have seen a lot of new tour operations come and go. Some of them are very professional and have specialist knowledge about wine, oenology, viticulture and the regions and history that accompany that. Some are truck em in and truck em out, the companies no more than an Uber - guides who've never worked a day of their life in the wine industry - faking and fudging- adding little value beyond the wineries tasting rooms.
We are happy to make recommendations around who are the genuine ones and who are quite simply no more than a taxi. Who to go to for an exceptional experience or how to do it yourself on a budget and save money.
Particularly on Waiheke Island there is one tour company that embellishes beyond the scope, you'll see the number of Google reviews obscenely disproportionate to everyone else. Their own Google page says they've been in operation over 25 years 😳 and yet the owners bio says she started the business just before Covid 19 🤥
The majority of the tour companies all think most of their reviews are probably fake or purchased - Google reviews are spurious at best and no one ever checks or moderates.
If you want to go on an Auckland Wine Tour - and actually learn something about wine we are happy to give you background and context to the various wine regions not only around Auckland but around New Zealand.
Contact us and we can tell you what's what, who's who, who's real and who's paying to get your attention...
