Rest day 2.
Time to ride the new Vespa that Jason made me buy😂😂👏
We woke to a cloudless Canterbury day, so on with some gear and off I went....made my way to Diamond Head in time for fish n chips for lunch.
I continued on around the bays until the road ended.
I thought about the metal road that goes over the hill and onto Akaroa, but decided to leave that for another day.
125 kms later and I’m back at camp for a relaxing beverage.

So we have made it up to Rolleston for a few nights....
We met up with a few guys from the Otago Vespa Club for coffee and a chat around 10.00am, then back to McIvor and Veitch where we met up with Dave from one of our adventures to Chile a few years ago, then the trouble started.... as it became a very expensive stop over in Dunedin, with our visit to McIver and Jason Veitch just to check out the new BMW R18..... and rode away (well put it on the trailer) a new Vespa GTS Supertech 300 hpe, leaving my trusty Silver Bullet behind.
We finally got to Oamaru just before dark to spend the night with our friend Chris.
After a great breakfast at The Galley in the morning with Chris, right on the waterfront, we made our way north with another stop for a coffee break and catch up with Bryan at Ashburton.
We will base ourselves here for a couple of days of R n R.

Vesparado’s disbanded for now as we all make our separate ways home after our very successful adventure.
A special thanks to Ross and Christine Bulling for their hospitality and friendship.
Pete and Juls are already in the North Island heading to Pihama to drop of the Red Star, we are loaded with my Vespa and Nikki’s Versukie and are already in Dunedin, while Radar and Nikki fly home tomorrow.
String is somewhere???
Thanks again for all your support along the way.

Day 17.
We made it!!!
3000 kms from Cape Reinga and we’re eating oysters at the Bluff.
What a fabulous adventure on our scooters and a credit to all riders and support people along the way.
Leaving Gore in overcast weather, we soon encountered the Southern mist, that turned to rain.
Ross da Duke rode north from Invercargill to meet us and take us on roads less traveled, by passing Invercargill to the Bluff.
Christine and Graeme (Gobe) joined us along the way for our final kms.
After our feed of oysters, we made our way back to Invercargill for the next few day and the Burt Munro Rally.
Next up it was a fabulous dinner to celebrate the end of the ride and Raewyn’s Happy Birthday 🥳

Day 16. After a fabulous stay over with Shona and Lindsay at their Trail View B & B in Galloway we woke to misty rain.
We made a run for Jimmies Pies at Roxburgh for our first stop.
I must admit it was a bloody nice pie all round.
As the weather had now closed in we took the road through Moa Flats and a nice soup and coffee at Tapanui.
Every one was happy to reach our hotel in Gore and get out of the inclement weather and a nice hot shower.
So far so good, only one more sleep and we will be eating oysters at the Bluff 😜

Day 15. Omarama to Alexandra.
Another great ride after poached eggs in our room.
A good ride through the Lindis Pass for coffee at Tarras.
Just as we we’re leaving Tarras, String, Bugsy and Sharon, arrived, so we had a good catch up on the side of the road, the proceeded to Alexandra and onto our BnB for the night.
We got there reasonably early so Rocky and I went for a ride on the Vespa for an hour or so.
Lindsay and Shona made us very welcome and provided a sumptuous meal along with the good company of Les and Evelyn.
All in all a fabulous place to stay.

Day 14. Fairlie to Omarama.
Last night Pete sold his Vespa for $2,000 with all proceeds going to Far North Hospice...good on ya mate.
What an outstanding day for a Vesparado’s ride.
A stop over at Burke’s Pass for some old treasures and a coffee, then onto a photo shoot of Mt Cook, followed by a yummy salmon lunch at the salmon farm.
Pete had a bit of trouble on our way to Lake Ohau for our rendezvous with Grant Bulling, so he and Juls made their way to Omarama. We followed and with the temperature hitting around 30 degrees it was time for a nap, after sorting the breathing problems of the Vespa.
