Our story began in 2015 when we bought One Fyfe Beach Bach, located at the popular north end of Waihi Beach. While its location was stunning, the bach itself was desperately in need of some TLC, so we set out to renovate and transform it into the kind of place we’d want to spend our own holidays. No fusty furniture or outdated seashell designs here! One Fyfe is simultaneously bright and breezy yet

calm and cosy, a home-from-home where you can switch off and simply enjoy being together. So far, we’ve had the pleasure of helping over 1,500 guests disconnect from the daily grind – and we can’t wait to welcome more. Since reopening the doors of our bach the One Fyfe brand has evolved and now includes unique dining experiences and an online shop, which carries a lovingly curated selection of homewares, clothing and accessories. These additions to our offer are driven by our own passion (bordering on obsession) for good food and drink and beautifully crafted products, but also by our desire to celebrate and support the many inspiring indie businesses and artisans in New Zealand. We shop small and local whenever we can to bring you the very best Kiwi creations. With everything we do, we’re committed to minimising One Fyfe’s impact on the environment. We’re proud to have attained Climate Positive certification for our Business Operations and believe we are the first holiday accommodation in New Zealand to do so. We’re also a member of 1% For The Planet, which means we donate 1% of our gross sales each year to highly vetted environmental non-profits that align with our values and make the biggest impact possible. 🌏 The first carbon negative holiday house in the world?

A few days ago we received a surprising email. A UK energy and sustainability consultant currently studying for his masters got in touch. According to Stu's research we are the only certified carbon negative holiday home in the world. We're pretty surprised to hear this!

So in celebration of Earth Day we wanted to say thank you! When you support our business you help us remove more carbon from the environment. 👏

What does carbon negative actually mean?

It means we have measured the carbon emissions our business creates; this includes recording the energy, water and consumables we use, how many km we drive, what type of vehicles we use, the shipping of products and much, much more.

We do this for all areas of the business from our accommodation to our dining events, our office and our online store.

We partnered with EKOS to help us do this and calculate the emissions created and then to offset 120% of our carbon emissions with certified carbon credits.

These certified carbon credits are sourced from projects that grow and protect forests in New Zealand and the Pacific Islands and help to deliver climate resilience, waterways protection, erosion control, biodiversity conservation and community economic development.

In this way the net impact of One Fyfe is climate positive.
