TRAIL STATUS UPDATE: Section C - Karangahake Gorge Tunnel
DATE: 19 May 2025
ISSUE: Works located at the Karangahake Gorge Tunnel dealing with the remaining trees and scaling will commence tomorrow (Tuesday 20 May) and continue through to Wednesday 21 May, with the hope of having it completed on Wednesday (all going to plan). On Tuesday 20, traffic control will be in place, and also trail users control through the tunnel. The tunnel will remain open, and users will be let through when the team deems it safe to pass through. On Wednesday 21, access through the tunnel be in place. Thank you for your patience.

If you're near the Cornish Pumphouse today, you might see a crane and some works taking place around the building itself. One of OceanaGold’s consent conditions is that the company must conduct regular maintenance inspections of the Pumphouse.
While the crane is on site there will be some areas around the pumphouse that the public will be excluded from for safety reasons.

UPDATE: Works have been concluded.

DATE: 14 February 2025 - UPDATED 5 March 12.20pm
ISSUE: The Trail between Waihi and Waikino will be closed for concrete works on the following dates: Thursday, 6 and 7 March, and Thursday 13 and 14 March. We will reopen at 3pm on the last day of each works.
