🍿The Gaiety theatre is Wairoa’s historic cinema. 🎬
It was originally built in 1925 and collapsed in the 1931 earthquake. It was quickly rebuilt but closed its doors in the late 1960s.

In the 1990s The Gaiety was reinstated to its former glory and now is available to hire for events and screens regular movies Wednesdays - Sundays.

🌿 Step into the healing waters and rich history of Nga Hua o Mōrere 🌿

Hidden within lush native rainforest between Wairoa and Gisborne, Nga Hua o Mōrere is one of the few natural saltwater hot springs in the world. These mineral-rich waters have been treasured for generations by local iwi. The area became a thermal reserve in 1885 and remains a place of relaxation, connection, and wellbeing today.

Visitors can soak in soothing hot pools, refresh in cold plunge pools, and wander peaceful bush walks through the stunning Mōrere Scenic Reserve. Along the tracks, you may spot native birds such as tūī, kererū and bellbirds amongst towering nikau palms and ancient rainforest trees.

Producing around 250,000 litres of ancient mineral-rich seawater each day, the springs are renowned for their therapeutic qualities and tranquil natural setting. Whether you’re after relaxation, adventure, or a chance to reconnect with nature, Nga Hua o Mōrere is a must-visit experience in the Wairoa District.
