A must visit lookout spot while you're in Māhia!

📍MOKOTAHI HILL

Just a short 10-15 minute ascent on a well-carved track offering epic views over Māhia beach across to Opoutama and out into the northern waters of Hawke Bay.

The white-cliffed headland is the standout landmark of the Māhia Peninsula, while offering excellent views from the top of it.

Access is via a signposted carpark, halfway between Māhia beach and Taylor's Bay. Note, the walk involves a steady incline for most of the ascent, but with several opportunities to rest and take in the views.

If you're planning a trip to Mahia and would like more local information, maps, or travel advice, pop into the Wairoa i-SITE Visitor Information Centre. We're here to help make your journey unforgettable 😊

✨ LOCALLY MADE • BEAUTIFULLY CRAFTED ✨

We are proud to stock stunning handcrafted taonga from local business “Cloak and River” here at the Wairoa i-SITE 💚

Each piece is carefully curated with meaning, care and craftsmanship, making them the perfect taonga for yourself or a special gift for someone you love. From timeless pendants to unique designs, every piece carries its own story and connection. 🌿

A little kōrero from the creators themselves:

“We are a husband-and-wife creative duo proud to call Wairoa home. After growing up here, spending time away, and returning to raise our family, we found inspiration in the place and people we love most.

Our journey started with a simple moment — our youngest son picking up a stone and seeing possibility within it.

As self-taught creators, we’ve learned to trust patience, intuition, and the natural story each piece wants to tell. Our contemporary korowai honour tradition while embracing a modern vision, blending heritage with creativity.

Every taonga we create carries a piece of Wairoa, made with heart, purpose, and connection.

Thank you for supporting our journey. We hope our handcrafted pieces speak to you as deeply as they speak to us.”

— Jared & Tamara, Cloak and River ✨

Come in and explore the beautiful collection in store and support local artistry right here in Wairoa.
