Underleaf Eco Treks

Underleaf Eco Treks Guided walks or treks with a llama. Through native forest reserve and past caves. Underleaf Eco Treks is based just out of Waitomo Caves, New Zealand.

We provide guided walks through our farm, using llamas as companions and to transport any gear that is needed. The trek takes us through part of our more than 800 acre Native Forest Reserve. You can expect to see amazing limestone outcrops, caves, fossils, native birds and animals and a working sheep and cattle farm.

Animal Academy film crew is arriving tomorrow to film our farm and llamas for an episode that will be on channel 7 soon (ish). The whole episode will be our farm, underleaf, llamas, caves, eels, wetas, glowworms, moa bones etc... VERY exciting!!

Went for a picnic today with the four boys (Tama, Panda, Charlie and Happy) and each of the children got to lead a llama, including 3 year old Edan. Such a wonderful thing to do.

We found another cave on the farm. It's filled with a lot of ancient formation, some new formation, ancient native bird bones and a couple of old native snail shells. It was a 15m wriggle and slide, then a 15m abseil through lots of falling and crumbly rock and formation. All possible leads were way to small (I nearly got VERY stuck trying). So all in all it was a fun scramble and just about very exciting.
