Here’s how to choose:

🚗 Car relocation: we move your car to the finish while you walk. No timetable, no meeting times, and you can finish early and drive on. Best for groups.

- Kepler $125 per car
- Milford $330 per car
- Routeburn from $325 per car + $40 fuel top-up

🚌 Bus: set timetable and fixed stops, so there’s some waiting. Often the cheapest for one or two people.

- Kepler from $187 per adult to or from Queenstown & $23 to or from Te Anau
- Routeburn $164 per adult from Queenstown
- Milford $218 per adult from Queenstown

5 reasons people relocate their car with EasyHike instead of taking the bus:

1️⃣ We are your one stop shop providing also gear hire, food packages GF/Veg, as well as, bus and water taxi bookings.

- You collect a lockbox from our partners in Te Anau or Queenstown.

- You fix the lockbox (with your car key inside) to your vehicle and start your hike.

- While you are walking, we move your car to your finish point.

- You finish your walk, locate your car and the key from the same lockbox.

- You drop off the lockbox back in Te Anau or Queenstown en route to your next destination.

✨ What can you actually expect on the Routeburn Track?

3 days, ~32km, two national parks and the scenery changes on you every few hours. Here's the walk, day by day:

🌲 Day 1 — Routeburn Shelter to Routeburn Flats Hut

An easy start beside the Route Burn river, past Sugarloaf Stream and Bridal Veil waterfall, over a swing bridge and out onto open grassed flats with the mountains already closing in.

🏞️ Day 2 — Up to Routeburn Falls, then the big one: Harris Saddle (2.3km + 11.3km)

A steady climb through beech forest opens up views of the Humboldt Mountains, and you'll spend the night right beside Routeburn Falls itself.

Then comes the track's signature stretch.. wetlands, tussock meadows and reflective alpine tarns leading up to Harris Saddle (1,255m), the highest point on the track.

Drop over the other side onto the exposed Hollyford Face and the Darran Mountains open up in front of you...this is the view everyone's photos are of. Then down to Lake Mackenzie Hut to finish the day.

🌊 Day 3 — Down to The Divide (12km)

Silver beech forest, alpine plants, and a detour-worthy stop at Earland Falls (174m) before you finish at The Divide on the Milford Highway.

It's genuinely one of the best 3 days of walking in the country and it earns that reputation the hard way, with a proper climb in the middle.

Can you do a Great Walk in your 40's or 50's?

Yes. Absolutely. And here's the thing, people in their 40s and 50s are some of our best Great Walk clients. They're more prepared, more organised, and they appreciate the experience more deeply than almost anyone else.

🦵 Your knees need more attention The descents especially Mackinnon Pass on the Milford and the Kepler ridge are where knees feel the load. Tramping poles are not optional at this stage. Train on downhills before you go. Our gear hire includes quality tramping poles.

🎒 Pack weight matters more A 15kg pack at 25 is uncomfortable. At 45 it's genuinely damaging. Keep it under 10kg. Our gear and food packages are designed specifically around this target.
