Yes. And it might be the perfect first Great Walk. 🙌

At 33km over 3 days the Routeburn is shorter than the Milford and more manageable for first-timers — but it doesn't give anything away on scenery. The alpine section above the bushline on day two is genuinely spectacular.

What you need to know:

🏃 Fitness — You're walking 10–12km a day with a pack. A reasonable base level of fitness makes a big difference. Start building it now if you haven't.

🧥 Gear — Fiordland weather is unpredictable. A quality waterproof layer isn't optional. Boots that fit properly matter more than anything else.

🎒 Pack weight — Keep it under 10kg. This is the single biggest thing first-timers get wrong.

🗓️ Planning — Transport at both ends, food for 3 days, hut bookings. Sort these before you go, not when you arrive in Queenstown.
