Yin & Sound 9.30am Tuesday
Why Sound?
Pairing beautifully with the depths of Yin, the sounds of crystal singing bowls give an opportunity for the mind to follow the vibrations deep into the posture - where we meet our 'edge'.
Sound can be a way into that meditative state that so easily eludes us! And it's not cheating ;) through sound we engage sensorily - a perfect way to stay present in the body, to train the mind away from repetitive and intrusive thoughts, and into stillness and presence - this is gold.
The harmonies and progressions of Quartz Crystal Singing Bowls can be deeply uplifting and evoking, bringing you the spaciousness to explore and become aware of physical, emotional and subtle goings on.
After 9 years of sound journey practice, I have a deep experiential understanding of the affect of sound on the body - and the incredible capabilities of this modality. I journeyed for many years before playing, and am continually exploring and learning about what it is to be a resonant being.
Combining Yin with Sound is a way to add dimensionality to the practice of being present in the body. Of course we can use this practice in many different ways - to offer ourselves refuge from the daily demands, to give ourselves the opportunity to connect with our bodies and enhance our mobility, to be with breath and body to the best of our capabilities for 75 minutes.
Yin is a challenge through stillness - so what can be gained?
- Mental resilience - doing the hard things on the mat, finding our place of observation through physical intensity, does absolute wonders to our sense of personal resolve and perseverance.
- Nourishing the Fascia, and deeper tissues. Yin gives these deep levels of the body a space to be acknowledged and activated. In morning Yin sessions we work with cold muscles, bypassing them to lengthen and open through the aforementioned deeper layers - directing the nourishing fluids of the body into these areas.
- The Gift of Grace through Practice - classes at Shala are one place and time in life where you don't have to be good, proficient, or at all perfect. And Yin is a particularly good practice for this - there is no achievement or goal in sight. It's simply you, your breath, time and gravity. To explore, experience, to be.
Allow the sounds and guidance to open you into your own deepest space of quiet strength.
