Wine buffs! John Penney has a few spaces left on a workshop he’s running just south of Martinborough on Saturday 15 February. It will be 3 hours long and costs $90pp.

The workshop is in two parts, the first will involve a presentation working through a structured approach to understanding wine tastings, the second half will involve practising skills blind tasting common NZ wine varieties.

Get in before it’s closed off on 8 February.

You can contact John on 0211348827

A beautiful morning, the weather is on the improve as the six sites involved in Toast do their setting up for Sunday.

Puruatanga Rd much quieter than it will be on Sunday.

On Thursday Trinity and Matthew hosted about 50 English cricket supporters, groups from Gullivers Travel and Howzat. They'd left an overcast capital city expecting a cool day in Martinborough. Wrong! It was 28 degrees as they wandered around the vines and tasted wine in the sheltered garden area at Tiwaiwaka with Morton and Elise, and enoyed the wine and the information with Andy and team in the very flash tasting room at Palliser Estate. In between they were very well looked after by Erin and her great crew at The Runholder where they enjoyed tasting the wines of Martinborough Vineyard and Te Kairanga, Lighthouse gin and a lamb ribs and salmon lunch in the restaurant.

Matthew returned to work today and took a group of 29 on our Pinot to Palliser tour - morning tea at the Land Girl, saw the seals, climbed the 253 Cape Palliser lighthouse steps, lunch at Lake Ferry Hotel and wine and Lighthouse Gin at The Runholder. It was a group of English cricket supporters led by Gladstone Small and David Gower.

Linden Clark, my wife, my best friend and the co-owner of Martinborough wine tours passed away this morning. This Sunday would have marked 5 years since we took over the business together. I think we dealt with our new venture, Covid and the ups and downs of being in the tourism and wine industries very well thanks to her calm and thoughtful approach to everything she did.

I'd also like to thank our wonderful guides, Trinity, Karen and Lee for their support in recent times and no doubt in the days ahead as we keep the show on the road.
