I am becoming increasingly concerned at the level of abuse and exploitation of newcomers to this country who have been swindled out of thousands of dollars in the hope of finding work here. Many hold work visas issued under the Accredited Employer Work Visa scheme but the jobs do not exist and many find themselves destitute. The NZ Government appears to be d**g little to address the situation.

The problems are highlighted in Auckland but they will be replicated throughout the entire country. I am a Licensed Immigration Adviser based In the Wellington region with over 40 years experience in the immigration industry. My license number is 200800102. I want to play my part in bringing this abuse to an end in this part of the country.

You are welcome to contact me here or on my email [email protected] or call me on 0272496800 if you want advice on how to resolve your situation. All advice tendered will be completely confidential and free of charge.

The current Skilled Migrant category (SMC) invites Expressions of Interest (EOI) up until 23.59pm on Tuesday 15 August 2023. Immediately thereafter EOI's will no longer be accepted and the category will close to new applications.
On 09 October a new Skilled Migrant Residence VIsa process will be introduced with individuals needing to score 6 points to apply for the category. Points can be scored for NZ occupational registration, qualifications or income. Another 1 point for each year of work in New Zealand in a skilled job, up to a maximum of 3 points can be claimed.
All principal applicants will require an appropriate offer of employment in New Zealand and overseas work experience is no longer awarded points.
The usual rules regarding English language, health and good character remain in force

In a statement released this morning Immigration New Zealand has advised that they are unable to confirm processing timeframes for ANY visa categories at this time.

The chaos continues..........

Government is tabling legislation that will allow the Minister of Immigration or Cabinet to introduce a decision making framework that will get around the current operational bottleneck that has developed in recent times. The legislation is going to go through with some urgency although we do not know the detail yet.
Hopefully it will go some way to alleviating the long queues and waiting times currently being experienced by many thousands of people. Time will tell.

The arrival of the Covid-19 virus in New Zealand has resulted in the virtual closure of our borders.

Visas allowing entry to this country are being issued in very limited circumstances and this situation is unlikely to change in the months ahead. Should you need to make a request for an exception to the border restrictions you will need to submit an Expression of Interest in the first instance.

Likewise, the onshore labour market is set to change dramatically in the near future with high redundancies anticipated in many sectors including hospitality, retail and tourism. This is an unsettling time for all those who are affected by immigration outcomes and policy decisions. The rules are changing constantly and people need to be aware of these changes.

I continue to work from home at my office in Silverstream, Wellington and I am available to provide the most up to date immigration advice by phone (027 2496 800), Whatsapp, Facebook, Skype or e mail [email protected].

Please do not hesitate to get in touch. Advice is provided free of charge and without any obligation on your part. I am available every day.

Stay strong. Stay safe.

Article on the Immigration New Zealand website tells of a new wave of scam phone calls from individuals purporting to be Immigration Officers.
Callers pose as Immigration New Zealand staff and demand payment from applicants for various reasons, including incorrectly completing an arrival card, a failed police check and to avoid deportation.
If you think you might have fallen for this sort of scam I suggest you contact the NZ Police. Immigration New Zealand or a Licensed Immigration Adviser
