Meet Cholatid and Kick, the owners of karanthai.eatery in Wainuiomata 👋

What started as a food truck has blossomed into a warm, family-run eatery serving homestyle Thai food made with plenty of care.

We tried their crispy pork and yes, it was every bit as crispy and delicious as promised. Their green curry had so many layers of flavour that we couldn’t stop going back for more.

When we asked Cholatid and Kick why they chose Wainuiomata, their answer was simple: the community is incredibly welcoming and supportive ❤️

🥇 There’s Gold in Taitā.

The Learning Connexion | School of Creativity and Art (TLC) have just taken home the Creative Gold Award at the 2026 Wellington Gold Awards and we popped in to see what happens behind those very colourful walls.

For nearly 40 years, TLC has been helping people explore their creativity. Today, their Taitā campus is home to NZQA art and creativity programmes, short courses, weekend workshops, evening classes, kids’ holiday programmes, after-school classes, the LAB Gallery and more.

And if you’ve ever driven past, you’ll know it’s pretty hard to miss 🎨 Artist Sue Lund spent more than eight years painting the incredible murals across the campus buildings.

There’s a whole lot happening behind those colourful walls and plenty of ways to get creative, whether you’re looking to study, try a short course or get the kids involved.

A pretty special creative hub to have right here in the Hutt, with a Gold Award to prove it 🏆

One to add to your Lower Hutt dinner list 👀🍸

We popped into The Angus Restaurant and Bar and loved how cosy it was. It’s the kind of spot where you can actually sit down, have a conversation and enjoy some really good food.

The cumin spiced beef was a winner 🤤 and the cocktails were seriously good too. All their syrups are made in-house, which makes them well worth a try.

And you don’t need to be staying at the hotel. Pop in for dinner, a cocktail or both.

Meet Ken and Richelle Okada, the heart and soul behind Neko Ngeru Cat Cafe 🐱💛

Neko means ‘cat’ in Japanese and Ngeru means ‘cat’ in te reo Māori, but there’s a whole lot more behind this Lower Hutt cat café than the name.

Ken and Richelle have been rescuing, fostering, and finding homes for cats for more than 25 years, with their journey taking them around the world before eventually making the Hutt their home.

Neko Ngeru first opened on Jackson Street in Petone before moving into its new home in the heart of Lower Hutt. Today, it’s a place where rescue cats can socialise, meet potential families and, hopefully, find their forever home.

And it’s working. More than 270 cats have now been adopted through Neko Ngeru. 🥹🐾

You’ll find them upstairs at 📍215 High Street, above Father's Taste.

Come for some cat therapy. You might just meet your new best mate. 🐈
