PCAS left this morning. The Hercules took a while to get away apparently due to soft snow which fell last night. They were lucky to get out as the weather has closed in and a couple of days of snow and wind are forecast.

Heading back from "room with a view" we stopped in at the PCAS camp. There were experiments underway to test snow density and temperature at various depths and observe the snow strata. They were in good spirits some 6 days out on the ice. A couple of them were hankering for a hot shower. They have creative kitchen enclosures, a latrine (bucket with a toilet seat) with a world-beating view of Mt Erebus out the "window", an endless supply of fresh air and underground sleeping quarters for 3. That's a lot of digging!

Hi IceReachers.
I am Don taylor one of two New Zealand Antarctic Society vounteers at Scott base this summer. We have been here 5 days now. Like so many of you, coming here is a serious WOW moment. We have doen a lot so far including our field traing, a trip to Scott's Hut at cape Evans and a visit to two ice caves on the Erebus Glacier Tongue. The honeymoon is not over yet - we started work yesterday doing inventory control and sorting of stored equipemnt in the old hangar. There is a lot in there and it will be a few solid days to get through that task. I'll keep you posted - it's a pretty social place Scott Base. It's great to be contributing and seeing the continent and meeting so many interesting people.
