Customer service gets you a thank you. Hospitality earns you loyalty.

Customer service is what you do. Hospitality is how you make people feel.
You can teach service: steps, scripts, routines, but you can’t fake hospitality. It’s emotional labor. It’s noticing when someone needs water before they ask. It’s remembering the regular who’s been quiet lately.
In restaurants, success isn’t built on speed or aesthetics. It’s built on care.
That’s the difference between a transaction and a connection.

Most hospitality jobs in NZ are filled before they hit job boards. Be proactive, not passive. Introduce yourself to managers, share your availability, and follow up every 5 days. That persistence often makes the difference.
