Another history panel has been installed along the trail. Check out the fascinating story of the Shetlanders gold mining community who worked the southern end of the Nine Mile Beach. Remnants of their gold mining trestles can still be seen on the beach at low tide.

Bucklands Peak track through forest and subalpine scrub to Buckland Peaks with stunning views of the Paparoa Ranges and north/south of Cape Foulwinds coastlines...

Taken from just down the road between here and the Ōkari Lagoon.
Fun fact - kiwi are the only bird with external nostrils and at the end of its beak!
