DAY 28 - OUR FINAL DAY

Yes - our final day of the tour and a chance to park & freshen up. However some of use took the short drive to the fantastic Peterson Museum to fill in a couple of hours. The cars, displays and building are world class.

This afternoon we said our farewells and wish to thank the tour group for being a very special (6 sheriffs badges!) group and we wish them bon voyage!

DAY 27 - LA ROADSTER SHOW & FINAL DINNER

The biggest car event of the tour is the LA Roadster show which is in its 50th year. Although it isn't as big as it once was, the show still has some amazing cars on display, vendors, vintage dragsters and swapmeet. Some of the group elected to check out the local area and attractions for the day.

We had pre-dinner drinks/room party where we shared our tour highlights with each other then had our final dinner together. Lots of laughs and good times.

DAY 26 - SAN BERNARDINO TO SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA

Although we only had 75 miles to drive today we knew it would take 4+ hours to get to the End of the Trail sign on Santa Monica Pier.

We traveled though some well know cities such as Pasadena along Foothill Boulevard into Colorado Boulevard. We then drove on a couple mile of Sunset Boulevard before turning into Santa Monica Boulevard and following it all the way to the Ocean - WE DID IT!

We met Ian Bowen at the End of the Trail sign on the the pier before a lovely meal at Bubba Gumps on the Santa Monica Pier.

DAY 25 - KINGMAN TO SAN BERNARDINO, CALIFORNIA

The journey started with a visit to Cool Springs before driving the "Sidewinder" up Sitgreaves Pass - 198 curves over 8 miles. Sitgreaves Pass was a challenge for vehicles & passengers in the early days as they made their way West - California or BUST!

The old mining town of Oatman is now best known for the Burros - or Donkeys, who roam the streets. It's a cool place to visit and the the Oatman Hotel has over $500,000 in cash stapled to walls, ceiling, doors etc.

We followed Route 66 crossing the Colorado River into California through Needles, Goffs, Essex, Amboy, Ludlow and Newberry Springs to Barstow.

We like to change things for each tour and this year our destination for the day was San Bernardino where we are staying at the Wigwam Motel. A Kiwi style BBQ around the pool was the perfect end to the day.

DAY 24 - WILLIAMS TO KINGMAN, ARIZONA

Our day started with the drive through Bearizona Park where we got up close and personal with lots of animals which are very well cared for in a nice setting.

Williams was the last town on Route 66 to be by-passed by the Interstate in 1984 and is a true Route 66 town with excellent shopping.

Our next stop was Seligman where Angel Delgadillo called the famous meeting to declare Route 66 an historic byway - and the rest is history. We wouldn't be doing this tour if it wasn't for Angel. Unfortunately he had a medical appointment so we were unable to meet this 98 year old legend of the road, however his daughter Clarissa greeted us all at their family run gift store.

Hackberry General Store is another iconic stop along Route 66 in Arizona. Once at the Hotel we enjoyed a swim to cool off from the 103f dry desert heat followed by a fun dinner at the restaurant next to the Hotel where the owner gave us all a shot of her home made Mezcal & did a traditional Mexican toast.

DAY 23 - FLAGSTAFF TO WILLIAMS, ARIZONA

Although it's only about 38 miles from Flagstaff to Williams we filled in the day with some amazing activities.

Our first visit for the day was to Walnut Canyon to walk through ancient Indian cliff dwellings. The Hopi people lived in the cliffs until 1250 when they moved on. It's a very peaceful place and it's easy to imagine how life would have been back then.

Next up was a visit to Sedona for lunch - the scenic drive there is one of the best in the USA and Sedona is a beautiful town.

From there we heading to the Grand Canyon where 22 of the crew took a 45 minute flight over the Grand Canyon - the happy smiles on their faces when they returned showed how much they enjoyed it.

We then traveled out to the canyon rim for a sunset picnic at Kiwi Point. What a day!
