Jebel Shams is the highest mountain in Oman, rising to about 3,009–3,018 m depending on the summit measured. It is part of the Hajar Mountains and is often called the "Grand Canyon of Arabia" because of the spectacular Wadi Ghul (Al Nakhr Canyon).

Jebel Akhdar (The Green Mountain) is one of Oman's most spectacular mountain destinations, located in the Al Hajar Mountains about 2.5 hours from Muscat and around 45 minutes from Nizwa.
