تعتبر قرية العلياء من المواقع السياحية المتميزة بالسلطنة وتقع بوادي بني خروص بولاية العوابي وتبعد عن مركز الولاية حوالي26كم تجذب إليها الزوار لجوها المعتدل صيفا والذي يميل إلى البرودة في كثير من الأحيان وبارد شتاء نتيجة لكثرة هطول الأمطار ونزول الأودية بحكم موقعها القريب جدا من الجبل الأخضر .

تمتاز ولاية سمائل بمعالمها التاريخية، وتضاريسها الطبيعية المعروفة بكونها واحدةً من أجمل التضاريس في سلطنة عمان، بحيث تلتقي قلعتها التاريخية المعروفة بحصن سمائل مع واديها الأخضر الذي صنعته الطبيعة الحانية السخيّة، وعنيت به اليد العمانية، وتعهّدته بالجهد والعرق حتى يظل دائم الخضرة، الأمر الذي جعل من سمائل إحدى أخصب المدن العمانية وأكثرها وفرةً للموارد المائية : كالعيون والخلجان.
