Bocas del Toro is one of the few places of the world where you can see manatees 🦭! During the tour, on the mainland, you will discover a gorgeous wetland with luxurous vegetation, many birds and wildlife. After a nice boat ride, you arrive at the observation platform of the manatees where you wait for them (in silence) to come to eat! The tour finishes at the beach to discover the sea turtles nests 🐢 instalations to protect them.

Using this time off to introduce you tour by tour! Let's start with the chocolate tour, which can be done with no minimum of persons and posible during our vacations. The manatee is an aquatic animal of the Syrenian family living in the shallow intertropical waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Nicknamed the sea cow, this animal weighing up to 600kg is a non-ruminant herbivore that can eat 50 kg of food per day. Manatees cannot live in water below 20°C, their ideal water temperature is between 25 and 30°C.

What to do in Bocas del Toro when it rains?

It is not easy to know what to do in Bocas in a rainy day. We are going to give you tips and activities to spend a good time. Remember that the temperature remains the same (around 30°C) so if you want to do activities under the rain you can do:

1 - Chocolate tour by Kawi
It is an amazing time to discover the work of cacao in a native community. Discover the making process of the chocolate by walking through the farm (protected by the trees) and by doing handmade truffles in the traditional way and under a roof.

2 - Bahia Honda tour by Kawi
During the activity, you will go by boat through a mangrove channel where you can have the chance to see animals like monkeys, caimans, … while being protected by the roof of the boat as we go slowly. We arrive then to the welcome place with roof and restrooms, where we can wait if needed. We continue by walking in the jungle, a little bit protected by the trees, you can literally see the rain forest with its tiny frogs happy under the rain! We visit then the batcave which is not exposed to the rain, where we walk into spring water. After, you can enjoy a meal prepared by locals (under a roof) and add a snorkeling experience to your trip.

3 - Paunch, Bluff
Enjoy the nature and the beaches while being protected of the rain. Plenty of bars are welcoming you at Paunch and Bluff beach to have a fun moment. Moreover, during the turtle season, in a rainy day you may see them nest on bluff. What an incredible moment to experience. Bom Bom bar, Mosana and Oasis at Bluff beach, Skully’s, Ohana at Paunch beach and P**a beach at Big Creek are some option to have fun!

EN: Today is the anniversary of the earthquake which afected Bocas del Toro 34 years ago, the 22th of April 1991, causing destructions of roads and houses and several victims.

Did You know that it also created a tsunami few minutes after, that was until 2 meters high? People from Bocas Town saw the water leaving to create the wave but hopefully the tsunami got smaller and smaller going through the coral gardens and the mangroves of the archipelago and finally disappeared. What could have been catastrophic was prevent thank to our natural barrer of corals and mangroves. That is why we need to protect them, so they can protect us. Next tsunami is calculated for within 100 to 200 years. We remember today all those persons afected by the earthquake 34 years ago.

ES: Hoy es el aniversario del terremoto que afectó la provincia de Bocas del Toro el 22 de abril del 1991, causando destrucciones de casas, de calles y demasiado víctimas. Sabían que también causó un tsunami que llegó a medir hasta 2 metros de alto? Las personas de Bocas Town cuentan como vieron el agua retirarse de Bocas para formar la ola del tsunami, pero por suerte, la ola se volvió cada vez más pequeña pasando por los jardines de corales y los manglares para finalmente desaparecer. Lo que podría haber Sido catastrófico, se pudo evitar gracias a nuestra barrera natural de corales y manglares. Es por esa razón que tenemos que proteger a nuestros corales y nuestros manglares, para que ellos nos puedan proteger. El próximo tsunami se estima a dentro de 100 o 200 años. Hoy recordamos a todas las víctimas del terremoto de hacen 34 años.
