Over the past eight years, Unexpected Moments of Magic, in Panama, has worked with over 2,500 volunteers and are proud to say we are an illustration of diversity. What is your definition of yoga?

Today I searched on Instagram and all that came up were pictures of beautiful bodies doing some variation of a difficult yoga posture. This made me feel a bit sad. Yoga is so much more. If you are breathing and on this journey we call life, you are doing yoga. And every BODY can do yoga. It is a powerful philosophy and lifestyle that can cross through all separation. Asana practice is just one small piece of the puzzle... The 8 Limbs of yoga is where the wisdom lies in the practice when embodied.

The 8 Limbs of Yoga
• YAMA - Restraints, moral disciplines or moral vows
• NIYAMA - Positive duties or observances
• ASANA - Posture
• PRANAYAMA - Breathing techniques
• PRATYAHARA - Sense withdrawal
• DHARANA - Focused concentration
• DHYANA - Meditative absorption
• SAMADHI - Bliss or enlightenment

You are perfect. Eckhart Tolle says, "The greatest catalyst for change in a relationship is complete acceptance of that person as he or she is, without needing to judge or change them in any way." This is equally true for the relationship we have with ourselves. If you find yourself constantly wanting to improve, to be a better person, to be more beautiful or handsome, to be more intelligent, to be more aware, to have more, to experience enlightenment... stop trying. You are already there and are perfect as you are in this present moment. You are moving forward every day, making the best decisions possible for yourself and your loved ones. Fully surrender to yourself, to your bright light and your darkest darkness. Embrace it. Honor it. If you're feeling sad, allow yourself to be sad without judgment. If you're full of joy, allow yourself to experience every moment of it without attachment. If you are feeling frustrated, go deep within yourself to the root of the frustration and let it go. Forgive. Show compassion. Love. Surrender. 🙏🌹💜

If you are going through a huge transition in your life, be fully grateful for the transition and learn every lesson you possibly can from it. Find yourself in the beautiful flow of this blessed journey we've been given. The Universal Source is watching over you every moment. Guiding you to your higher self. Stay connected to that powerful transformational energy. Make it your best friend. And fully come to a space of unconditional love and surrender within yourself, so you can share that same love and light with all of those around you. Allow your light to shine, like the sun ☀️shines upon the entire universe, upon every creature... by doing so you allow others to show that same light and reflect it back to you.

I wanted to share this as it is an important message to all my lovely volunteers. Sometimes people come to Panama, to "help" the Panamanian people, which is lovely and the intension is beautiful, but the reality of it is, they can help us just as much as we can help them. Volunteering is a mutual beneficial relationship between the volunteer and the people being served. It is not about coming to Panama to "help" or to change them, its about coming to Panama to learn to love on a deeper level and learn some truly valuable lessons by experiencing another culture. Some people do this well, while take a little longer to adjust to the cultural differences. So if you plan to come volunteer with us, come with the attitude that you are going to be helped just as much as you are going to help. This is a great attitude to have so you can truly serve both yourself and the community of Boquete!
