10 years fishing the 🇵🇦 Pacific… and it can still surprise you. 🌊
A HUGE Atlantic tarpon here in Playa Venao.
Tarpon are an Atlantic species, but somehow made their way into the Pacific — presumably through the Panama Canal and have established themselves along parts of the Eastern Pacific.
In 10 years of fishing Playa Venao, this is the first tarpon we’ve ever got to the boat
And what a first one… 🤯💪🏽

You don’t always get what you want… or what you need. 🦈
We thought we were hooked into a BIG tuna.
For about 5 minutes, we were convinced we had a monster yellowfin on the other end. Then the fight started telling us a different story.
Too strong. Too powerful. And definitely not fighting like a tuna.
Then we saw it…
SHARK. 🦈
We don’t normally get or want many chances to fight sharks. Most of the time, they find the line and it’s game over. But this one had missed the lure and had it on the side of its face and couldn’t get to bite through the line.
So Micheal went into damage-control mode — fought him hard back towards the boat and saved as much line as he could.
Once we got him close, there was only one thing left to do…
Cut the line and let him keep the lure.
We didn’t want a shark. We didn’t need a shark.
But when something like this decides to eat your lure, you fight it. 💪🦈
One hell of a surprise. One hell of a fight, and a great test for Mike’s travel rod 😜 . F⚓️CK THE TAXMAN

🇦🇺 Laura just arrived in Playa Venao from Australia, looking for a new place to call home. So we jumped on the boat, cruised down the coast checking out some potential new spots… and did a little fishing along the way. 🎣🌴
Home is still being decided, but dinner is sorted! 🎣😂
