How about the Philippines in January or February? Two of the most wanted Bucket List Species are staked out right now.
The Philippine Eagle is on a nest that can be visited and there is now an active hide for Palawan Peacock Pheasant.

Our Mindanao trip starting on Jan 10, has seen recent cancellations and needs two more participants for the best price. We can also arrange an extension on Palawan.
Another Palawan and Luzon trip is also scheduled for Feb 1-7.

We are running a commercial trip to Taiwan in September, but because there are no local English speaking guides available due to the World Bird Fair and consequent tours before and after, Gunnar has to do a scouting trip before the commercial trip for 5 days (Sep 15-19) and then guide on his own for the main tour Sep 23-28. Taiwan is quite straight forward to bird, and Gunnar has all the waypoints for keybirds, all the calls for playback, thermal camera and a scope.
It is possible to join the scouting trip with him for just $1100 including hotels, vehicle, gas, and tolls. Meals are paid for on the go. It will be very high paced We should get all the possible endemics within those 5 days.
Taiwan is the land of CUTE (kawaii) - and man are many of the 30 endemics cute. And if not cute, spectacular like the two pheasants and the Blue Magpie. Comment below if interested.

Anyone interested in a last minute birding and culture trip to Petra and the rest of Jordan between Aug 25 to Aug 31?
Now is the time to go. Only 20% of the regular crowds. Seemingly people think that Jordan is participating in conflicts of their neighboring countries. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Very excited! The Philippine Eagle itinerary to Mindanao in November has been posted.
If you only have a week it is possible to fit in this tour for the Eagle. 10 days if you want to include lowland birding at PICOP.
The tour runs just before the Asian Bird Fair between Nov 11-20
The itinerary has been designed by long-time Mindanao expat birder Pete Simpson. We are guided by expert local guides. Gunnar Engblom is the tour leader.

When I haven't been hiking and hitchhiking the Satipo road looking for birds, I've been going to the school that's right across from the lodge. Photographed here are Antony, Jac and Katiana, the entire school population here at Calabaza. At their request I've been teaching them some English about an hour every two days (and they've been teaching me just as much Spanish).

I have also been teaching them about some of the common birds found around Calabaza.Today we drew Oropendolas, tanagers and toucans, and I pointed out what they may want to look out for to ID different species in the field. Both Antony and Jac have joined me birding ( Katiana may be just a tad too young still), and I've been able to get them on a couple Dusky-green Oropendolas in my binoculars!

I've also helped Jac download Merlin and the Central Peru pack on his phone, and all three of them really love listening to what different birds sound like on the app. They're truly on track to shape up into some great birders real soon.

Visiting the Andamarca Valley:
The lodge is located about an hour's drive from the Andamarca Valley. Here one can find the Spectacled Brushfinch, an endangered bird known only from the slopes of this valley. Additionally , unique forms of Azara's Spinetail and Plain tailed Wren are found in the valley which stand to be split and formally described as their own species' in the future. The valley is also a great place to search for other central Peru endemics like the Cream-crested Spinetail, Junin Tapaculo, and Junin Antpitta.
