Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world and unquestionably the emblem of Puno's identity, is situated at 3,808 meters above sea level and has a surface area of close to 8,200 km2—4,700 of which are on Peruvian territory. It has a coastal length of 1,150 km, more than 30 islands, and a volume of roughly 840 cubic kilometers. At its deepest point, near to Soto Island in Peru, it reaches a depth of 280 meters.
