En el Perú los andes forman un conjunto de cordilleras que atraviesan nuestro territorio de sur a norte mostrando diferentes características de configuración, estructura y composición.

Toda la atención de los andes montañosos ocupa el 32% del territorio nacional y de la cerca de 20 cordilleras diferenciadas existentes que la que conforman , dos destacan por su altura y rigor de sus perfiles ; la cordillera blanca y la cordillera Huayhuash que albergan las dos cumbres de mayor altitud del Perú : el nevado Huascaran con 6,768 m y el Yerupaja con 6,679m respectivamente una enorme cantidad de recursos de agua desciende de la altura que alcanza mas de 5,000 m producto de lluvias y deshielos de los nevados que han formado a lo largo de millones de años lagunas valles y quebradas por las que discurren ríos y arroyos que alimentan tanto ala franja desértica de la costa como los caudales de la región amazónica.

¿Alguna vez haz visto un río de color rojo? No se trata del río de las sagradas escrituras bíblicas. Si pensabas que Cusco sólo era Machupicchu te contamos que siempre hay más que descubrir en esta región de los andes. cerca de la Montaña Arcoiris, surca un río rojo cuyas imágenes y vídeos nos asombraron. Fue una sorpresa saber que ese “Yawar Mayu”, como es conocido entre los locales, se encuentra próximo al llamado Valle Rojo, un espacio que ha ganado también fama en los últimos años, pero no tenía en el radar viajero a este enigmático río.
