GLACIER TREKKING FROM SIBINACOCHA TO SINGRENACOCHA LAGUNE 4 DAYS
This four-day, 60+ km expedition begins at the dazzling turquoise shores of Lake Sibinacocha, the largest high-alpine lake in the Vilcanota Range. From there, you trek directly towards the base of the Chumpe Glacier, a massive ice cap whose crevassed white flanks descend steeply into rocky moraines. The trail winds through a surreal landscape of puna grasslands, icy streams, and herds of vicuñas, with the jagged, snow-dusted peaks of the Vilcanota chain piercing the sky at over 5,000 meters. As you cross high passes, you are rewarded with panoramic views of countless turquoise lagoons scattered like gems across the tundra, fed directly by the melting Chumpe and its neighboring glaciers.
The final days lead you towards the stunning emerald waters of Lake Singrenacocha, a perfect mirror for the surrounding ice-covered mountains. This section offers the most intimate views of the Chumpe Glacier’s snout, where massive blocks of ice calve into small, milky-blue ponds. Despite the challenging altitude and rocky terrain, the beauty is relentless: each turn reveals a new combination of sparkling lagunas, windswept ridges, and the deep silence of the Andean highlands. Completing over 60 kilometers in just four days is a demanding but rewarding journey, immersing you deep into the heart of one of Peru’s most spectacular glacial corridors.
