Peru is a country of thresholds. There is the Machu Picchu that everyone sees. Then there is the hour you arrive, the guide beside you and the terrace you have to yourself.

Some journeys are remembered through a single view. The Inca Trail is remembered through every step that leads there.

For this Enigma guest, the experience began with thoughtful preparation and continued through changing weather, centuries-old stone pathways, remarkable archaeological sites and the vast landscapes of the Peruvian Andes.

What stayed with her most was the people. The guides who understood the history of the trail and remained attentive to every traveler. The field team whose kindness, strength and dedication shaped each day. The meals prepared along the route. The conversations, laughter and shared sense of achievement.

Walking towards Machu Picchu also revealed a much larger story. Agricultural terraces, storage structures and ceremonial spaces offered a glimpse into the knowledge, creativity and extraordinary relationship with the landscape developed by the Incas.
