This beautiful lagoon gets its name from the snowy mountains near it (Humantay, 5473 m), the lake has been sacred since the Inca civilization, people used to leave sacred offerings to mother earth on the banks of the river, in these times, the Shamans visit the lagoon to make offerings, the locals call this Apachetas.
Apacheta is a process to stack small stones on top of each other, this is done to express their gratitude to Pachamama (Mother Earth)
