The Glacier,
"THE OTHER WONDER OF CUSCO"
Known as the largest tropical glacier in the world, it is located in the Vilcanota mountain range, southeast of Peru, in the district of Pitumarca, province of Canchis, Cusco.
This impressive glacier, with an altitude of 5,700 meters, extends over more than 17 km and covers an area of 44 km², with an ice layer that reaches 200 meters thick.
In addition to being a challenge for experienced mountaineers, the Quelccaya is vital for the region, as it supplies the Vilcanota River and the Sibinacocha Lagoon, being a key water resource for nearby communities such as Sallani and Phinaya.
