Manu National Park
It is located 280 km from the Cusco city and the highway Cusco-Paucartambo can be used to get there. Its area covers part of the highlands of the department of Cusco and the jungle of the department of Madre de Dios. With an extension of 1716 295.22 hectares, it is the biggest protected natural area in Perú and one of the biggest in the world. It shelters more than 3500 registered plant species, much of them have not yet been identified. Its fauna is also important including more than 800 bird species, 140 amphibian species, 50 snake species, 40 lizard species, 6 turtle species, 3 caiman species and 210 fish species. Besides, within its limits a valuable human patrimony can be found conformed by 30 Quechua speaking peasant communities, indigenous jungle dwellers, such as the Machiguenga, and native groups who choose voluntary isolation.
