Great Thrush (Turdus fuscater)

Is the largest member of this cosmopolitan genus, often the most common thrushs in humid Andean habitats, from 2,000–4,000 m. Note orange bill and legs and yellow eyering (males only), brown overall, varying across range from dark blackish to paler grayish-brown.

Blue-necked Tanager (Stilpnia cyanicollis)

It is a small and striking tanager, common and widely distributed in foothill and lower montane forests in the Andes.

Usually found in pairs or small groups, often following a mixed-species flock through the canopy. Occurs in forests, edges, and gardens. Visits fruit feeders.

Giant Otter (Pteronura brasiliensis)

Is the largest member of the mustelid family, which includes otters, weasels, and ferrets, and are by far the loudest member of the group. Giant river otters are very sociable and live in families of between 3-10 individuals that hunt together.

The giant river otter competes with the black caiman for the title of maximum predator of the Amazonian lakes (cochas), a competition that can get so tense that it has been observed through physical confrontations. Its principal source of food are the fish from these cochas, forming an important part of the trophic balance of the aquatic ecosystem.

Long-billed Starthroat (Heliomaster longirostris)

Uncommon hummingbird of humid evergreen forest and edge in tropical lowlands, is a solitary creature, as are other hummingbirds, living independent of any sort of lasting pair bond. It frequently perch out in the open, especially when hawking for insects. They also gather nectar from flowers, particularly those of large trees.

Tawny-bellied Screech-Owl (Megascops watsonii)

The most common of lowland forests, is a lovely owl that varies in color from rufous to dark brown. It has distinctive ear tufts, a buffy facial disc and striking dark orange eyes.

It prefers forest interior but can also be found in forest edge, especially in dense vegetation, it ranges up to 700 m along the foothill of the Andes.

Small brown bird with a stubby wedge-shaped bill. The head is dark brown with a whitish supercilium and malar stripe, Visually inconspicuous, it is easier located by its chattering call, a series of 5 or 6 metallic zeet notes.

Is uncommon in montane forests of the east slope of the Andes at elevations ranging between 600-2300 m. It also ranges onto the lowlands of southeast Peru.

Emerald Tree Boa (Corallus caninus)

Non-venomous, arboreal snake, it use their prehensile tail to hold onto tree branches. Its diet consists of arboreal rodents, squirrels, monkeys, lizards and bats. It will also consume birds.

This species is a nocturnal hunter, they lie in wait on a branch above the ground, waiting to strike at any unsuspecting prey that walk beneath them. Found in wet lowland rainforests with heavy precipitation.
