Cusco Celebrating: Festivals in Peru

Peru is famous for its ancient Inca ruins and spectacular landscapes, but one of the most fascinating aspects of Andean culture is its traditional festivals.

Many of these celebrations combine Inca traditions, Andean spirituality, Catholic rituals, music, dance, and community celebrations. Some festivals are joyful street celebrations, while others are deeply spiritual pilgrimages in remote mountain landscapes. If you are planning a trip to Cusco and the Andes, attending a traditional festival can become one of the most memorable experiences of your journey.

Among the most impressive celebrations near Cusco are:

* Inti Raymi – the Inca Festival of the Sun
* Virgen del Carmen in Paucartambo – one of the most colorful festivals in Peru
* Qoyllur Rit’i – a sacred pilgrimage high in the Andes
* Corpus Christi
* Qeswachaka

Each festival is unique and could be a good fit for your trip. Feel free to contact us for dates & prices!

Only half an hour from Cusco, you will find the lovely village of Pisac. Pisac is also known for its Inca ruins, which were built as a control post between the valley and the rainforest. Pisac is built on a hill overlooking the Urubamba River!

✨🌞 Immerse yourself in the magic of Inti Raymi! 🌞✨

📅Every June 24th, Cusco comes alive with the vibrant celebration of Inti Raymi, the ancient Incan festival dedicated to the Sun God, Apu Inti. On this special day, the city honors the sun and pleads for its return as it is when the sun is farthest from the earth. 🌎 🇵🇪 This incredible event survived the Spanish invasion and continues to captivate locals and visitors alike. 🗺️

🎊It is one of the most important celebrations in Cusco and cannot be missed if you are travelling in Peru or when you are here to learn Spanish with us. Be prepared to enjoy a unique experience in Peru that will always be remembered.🧳

🏞️ The festivities begin at Qorikancha with dances and songs, offering a tribute to the Sun God, and continue to the Plaza de Armas. The most important part of the ceremony takes place at Sacsayhuamán. Here, the Inca pay their respects with prayers in Quechua and a symbolic camelid sacrifice a shaman performs to predict the coming year’s prosperity.

💃🏼Witness more than 800 performers in their traditional clothing bring history to life through dances, performances, and praises. This theatrical spectacle, filled with mysticism and spirituality, offers a glimpse into the rich Incan heritage.

🌟 Ready to experience Inti Raymi? Make he most of this extraordinary celebration- before you return to Spanish class tomorrow! 🌟
